Ladies and gents, today is the beginning of intern year. Sure I technically started a month ago, but that was just an elective, an excercise in avoiding the inevitable. Now is the time when the real work starts. I'll be on overnight for the next 2 weeks, attempting to treat patients while their primary services sleep, and admitting new patients into the hospital. I'll have a co-intern, which makes it better, but still, the fact remains that it is now time to really be a doctor. No more med student fake work, where a resident or attending finishes stuff up while you go home and go to sleep. Now I am the resident. The go-to-guy. The dude. Wish me luck folks, cause this gonna be quite the ride.
